Dear Stuart and Other Side Travellers
well done on producing such a fine book on travelling in Thailand,
far superior to "Lonely Planet".
I will be travelling to Thailand on the 22 March 1999, for 6-8 weeks
depending on how long my money lasts. I would be grateful if you
could give me some general advive on how to plan my holiday
in regards to enjoying the best weather. I will be flying in to
Bangkok and want to only spend 4-5 days there. I want to travel
both South and North and I am not sure how to do it to achieve
the best weather.
Once again, thanks for your efforts in your book and web site, I really appreciate it, it helped me greatly.
Regards
Juanita Turner
Dear Juanita,
Tales From the Other Side replies;
Thanks for your email regarding your trip to Thailand and please excuse me for taking so long to get back to you. Given when you are planning on coming up, 4 to 5 days in Bangkok should probably be more than enough, because although it is a fantastic city (I am biased as I live here) April is also the hottest month and both me and the plants on my balcony are dying for rain! As you say you want to go south and north, I'd suggest south first then the north, as although the rains should not really start coming down in the south till May, they may come earlier. So if you were to head south first, you could maybe four weeks down there, then head north where it will be cooler than Bangkok and the Central Plains, but still pretty hot! You could then spend a few weeks up north (Although Chiang Mai is very nice, Mae Hong Son and Pai(to the west) and Nan to the north east are even better) before returning to Bangkok before departure. The above is just a sample, I mean this time is generally good all over the country but it can get pretty hot, so you may want to spend longer on the islands... I hope this is of help and if you have more queries, please don't hesitate to ask.
Kind Regards
Stuart McDonald

I'd love to buy the book but I can't wait for it to arrive as I'm leaving for Thailand next week.
I intend to wander around Chinagmai and Chiangrai for 2 weeks.
Is there a bookstore where I can buy Thailand For Travellers by Travellers in Bangkok?
I'd appreciate the help.
Edmund, Singapore

Tales From the Other Side replies;
Edmund,
Yes, the Thailand book is available at all good bookstores in Bangkok.
Any Asia Books store is a particularly good bet.
Enjoy your trip!
