PROGRAMMES

Operation and Management of the hostels for hilltribe children. Sakura Hostel construction began in 1991 in Nam Lat, Chiang Rai. As of May 2001, there are total of 147 hilltribe students boarding, and attending school. SAKURA PROJECT is operated by a scholarship scheme that each supporter continuously assists one child to cover the expences for hostel and education (SATO-OYA or Foster Parents). Since 1996, we operate Palan Hostel of Huaimaeriam Primary School (photo)in Chiang Rai, and support 25 Lahu tribe children with accommodation and educational expences. Also, we support 23 students at Hong Oo Hostel of Hong Oo Primary School in Chiang Rai from 2001, and 26 students at Ruammit Village Hostel from 2002.
Constructing school building in the villages without schools, and dispatching teachers to schools lacking human resources. Today, we provide financial support for education and school lunch, and also dispatch teachers to Ruammit Primary School and Jatober Branch School(photo) in Chiang Rai
Providing scholarship for poor hilltribes. We provide financial support for textbooks and stationery for those attending schools in village as some families are less likely to afford all the expences alone.
Distributing textbooks, stationery, and second hand clothing (photo)to the villages of hilltribes
Assisting with water supply infrastructure including pipes and tanks(photo) in the villages without water supply facilities

Instructing healthcare, and providing medical supplies for hilltribes.

Emergency assistance to the fires, flood, drought, and earthquakes in the villages of hilltribes. So far we served in flood on River Maesuai and great fire in Maemon Village.

Supporting researches on cultures and succession of traditions of hilltribes.

Encouraging the crafts production, and assisting distribution and sales to help succession of the traditional cultures.

Promoting Japan Thailand cultural exchanges. In 1998 we established Thailand Japan Culture and Friendship Center(photo) in Nam Lat, Chiang Rai, and operating Sakura Museum of Ethonology.
