Logic Puzzle Solver (Version 0.94)

Hi, here is where you can download my Logic Puzzle Solver program. It should work under all flavours of Windows, but I have not yet tested it with Vista. I would therefore be grateful for any feedback from Vista users.

These Logic Puzzles come in various sizes, and you can download from here version 0.94 of my program, which will solve puzzles of almost any size up to a maximum grid size of 60 by 60. I had originally tried to charge for this but found the response totally underwhelming! So here it is free of charge. Any future developments I make of the program will also be put up here.

This version has been almost completely rewritten using FreeBasic, which is 32-bit compliant. Previously the program was written using QuickBasic 4.5, which is only 8-bit. The program is much quicker now, and has more screen space. The only downside is that the file is a bit larger in size (100K).

There are a number of other Logic Puzzle Solvers out there on the web (see my links page for some), but most of them appear to need an advanced degree in programming or they are not as interactive as mine. One exception is on the Delphi for Fun website.

Please note the program is in a zip file so you will need WinZip (or the compressed folders option in Windows Me or XP) to expand it. There is a readme file included which gives full instructions and a tutorial to get you going, plus a number of blank grids for use with my own puzzles which you will find on this site.

Here are some screenshots of the program in action!

NB. The current program may not be able to load save files that were created by versions of this program prior to v. 0.86. But it will be able to load programs created by version 0.86 (which can load all previously saved files). So if you have some old puzzle files you will need to run them through version 0.86 first, which can be downloaded here. Also when using the new version, all previously saved puzzles should go in a sub-folder of the main folder called "puzzles" (this folder will be created for you). Some older computers may not be able to run this new version. If not you should be able to use Version 0.86

Sudoku Assistant (Version 0.40)

Here you can download Sudoku Assistant. This has again been rewritten using FreeBasic, which is 32-bit compliant. Hopefully it should work on all Windows-based machines. However it may not work on machines with a 64 bit operating system. The program only works with the standard 9 by 9 sudokus, and those using numbers rather than letters.

The program is in a zip file - so again a method of unzipping will be required - and full instructions are included.
