Flight Attendants Solution
Greg is employed by Chaste Air (clue 4), and Easy Peasy only employs male attendants (clue 7), so Simon, who flew from Gatwick (7). Claire works from Gatwick or Heathrow (5), but not Gatwick (above) so Heathrow and flew to JFK (6). The flight from Manchester which left on Friday (6) didn’t have Julia or Greg aboard (2), so Meg. Greg didn’t fly to Miami (2), Shanghai (4), Johannesburg (8) or JFK (above), so Hong Kong. Anglo-African flies to Johannesburg (8). Meg didn’t fly there (above and 8), or Simon (above), so Julia. Claire flew to JFK so doesn’t work for Westward (1), so Meg does. By elimination Claire works for English Airways. Meg didn’t fly to Miami (1), so Shanghai. Simon flew to Miami. Simon didn’t fly out on Monday or Tuesday (2) or Friday (above), so Wednesday or Thursday. So Claire flew on Thursday and Simon on Wednesday (3). Julia didn’t fly on Monday (2) so Tuesday, and Greg on Monday. Greg flew from Glasgow and Julia from Edinburgh (3).
Thus:
| Attendant | Airline | UK Airport | Foreign Airport | Day |
| Claire | English Airways | Heathrow | JFK | Thursday |
| Greg | Chaste Air | Glasgow | Hong Kong | Monday |
| Julia | Anglo-African | Edinburgh | Johannesburg | Tuesday |
| Meg | Westward Air | Manchester | Shanghai | Friday |
| Simon | Easy-Peasy | Gatwick | Miami | Wednesday |
How to solve using Logic Puzzle Solver:
First resize the grid (press F9) to 5 categories and 5 options and put in the following labels:
CLA, GRE, JUL, MEG, SIM (Names)
MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI (Days)
HK, JOH, JFK, MIA, SHA (Foreign Airports)
EDI, GAT, GLA, HEA, MAN (UK Airports)
AA, CHA, EAS, ENG, WES (Airlines)
Or you can load the grid from disc by hitting F10 and typing "attend" (without the quotes) or the number indicated.
Then type in the following clues:
1. WES<>MIA,JFK
2. JUL<>MON,FRI : GRE<>THU,FRI,MIA : SIM<>MON,TUE
3. ENG<>EDI,GLA,EAS,MON : EAS<>FRI
4. GLA<>FRI : EDI<>MON
5. GRE=CHA : CHA<>SHA
6. CLA=HEA,GAT
7. HEA=JFK : MAN=FRI
8. EAS=GRE,SIM : EAS=GAT
9. AA=JOH : AA<>FRI
You will then see from clue 3 that English Airways cannot fly on Tuesday or Wednesday, so put:
ENG<>TUE,WED
And the puzzle is solved.
