Police Line-Up
Five men (one of whom is Mr Grady) are “helping the police with their enquiries” by taking part in a line-up. One of the men is a suspected con man, while the others have volunteered to take part, as they all look similar to the suspect. Each of the volunteers has a different job. From the clues below and the diagram, can you work out where each man is standing, what their full names and jobs are, and who the suspect is?
NB: All references to left and right are from the position of the witness who will be looking at the line-up.
1. Ewan is standing to the left of Mr Jackson (who isn’t called Donald) but to the right of the undertaker.
2. Mr Howard is standing in position C.
3. Mr Ibbotson is a teacher of criminology at the local tech and was pleased to help out the police so he could get some “inside knowledge”!
4. Mr Frost (who isn’t Alf and isn’t standing in position B) isn’t the undertaker.
5. Alf (who isn’t standing in either position B or position E) isn’t the taxidermist. Nor is he the driver of the No. 27 bus which happens to go past the police station where the line-up is to be held.
6. Brian isn’t Mr Ibbotson or Mr Jackson.
7. Neither Charles nor Mr Frost (who isn’t the bus driver) is standing at the extreme right of the line-up.
8. You will be pleased to know that the witness picked out the right person, who is now spending a considerable amount of time behind bars!
